100 Mile Lunch Fundrasier 2016

The 100 Mile Lunch Fundraiser was held on Sunday 28th August, 2016 @ The Old Castlemaine Gaol 'MESS HALL'. The theme for 100 Mile Lunch Fundraiser is ‘Mental Health Awareness’. Suicide amongst young people in Rural Victoria is twice the rate than metropolitan areas due to a range of circumstances contributing to broad socio cultural, mental health, economic and service-related problems and conditions.
The 100 Mile Lunch was planned and run by the XtremeInc ‘Youth Food Crew’ who have been mentored by food and event leaders within the community including Nikki Valentine (Growing Abu...ndance), Billy McLdowney (Chef) and XtremeInc's president and Food Crew leader Rochelle Rowe.  Providing young people with basics skills in cooking using fresh local produce sourced within 100 miles of Castlemaine. It was 4 years ago that we decided to start having an annual food event with a focus on fresh local produce cooked with food leaders along side young people, giving them skills for life and possible future careers. Our food events brings the whole community together and shows our young people that they are supported and valued. The amazing Food Crew catered for 80 community members and delivered a beautiful 3 course lunch of:

  • Marinated Olives with Organic Sproud Bread
  • Leek, potato and Jerusalem artichoke velouté with Parmesan served with basil oil
  • Slow roasted Erindale lamb shoulder ragu on creamy polenta with sautéed greens and confit dutch carrots
  • Baked field mushrooms stuffed with herbed Meredith goats cheese and lemony crumbs
  • Castlemaine Fresh Anzac Biscuits with honey Meredith goats cheese

XtremeInc is a not for profit organisation that I have been lucky enough to be apart of over the last 6 years. I have seen the work and effort Sarah has put in behind the scenes to create great events for the local community. Sarah has the gift of connecting people and spreading positivity throughout the community. Her bubbly friendly personality really brings an added warmth to the events and her skill and passion are evident. I hope to see many more XtremeInc event throughout the country. I have personally benefited from participating in Sarah’s dance competitions, made connections with others in the industry and been given opportunities to further enhance my own dancing career. Sharing passions and skill is something we all need more of and Sarah really leads by example.
